Kindergarten and 1st grade math centers need this range, 0 through 20. These free printable number flashcards 0–20 come in four versions:
- with number words
- numeral-only
- with picture representations
- tracing cards
The 11–20 range is where many students start making the leap from rote counting to actually understanding the teen numbers, and having clear, well-designed cards makes that instruction more concrete.
Need the smaller range? See number flashcards 0–10. For full hundreds range, see number flashcards 0–100. These pair well with the printable calendar numbers and printable play money for hands-on math exploration.
Teaching Numbers 0-20 Ideas and Activities
These cards target the full 0–20 range with activities that build number sense at every step:
- Teen number focus: pull just the 11–19 cards for a targeted small group lesson — show the numeral, say the word, count out that many manipulatives. Repeat across multiple short sessions until teen numbers feel as automatic as single digits
- More / less / equal: draw two cards and ask “which is more?” or “which is less?” or “are these equal?” Simple comparison practice that builds number sense without worksheets
- Number line building: lay all the cards in a row to build a physical 0–20 number line on the floor or table — students can walk it, hop to a called number, or find which number comes before or after a given card
- Missing number: lay out a sequence with one or two cards removed — which numbers are missing? A strong warm-up activity that tests whether students know the sequence or are just reciting by rote
- Closest to 10: hold up any card and ask “is this closer to 0 or closer to 20?” or “how far is it from 10?” Builds benchmark number skills and helps students estimate without counting every step
- Even or odd sort: go through each card and sort into even and odd — have students look for the pattern (0, 2, 4, 6, 8… and 1, 3, 5, 7, 9…). The physical cards make the alternating pattern visible in a way that’s hard to see in a worksheet
- Counting on: pick a card as a starting number, then count forward 3 or 4 more aloud — no objects needed. This builds the mental math strategy of counting on from a number other than 1, which students need for addition fluency

Print Sizes and Options:
- Full page (1 per page): best for bulletin boards, classroom displays, and circle time anchor charts students can see from across the room
- Half page (2 per page): ideal for homeschool binders, learning centers, and early learners who need larger cards for handling and reading
- Quarter page (4 per page): great for individual student sets, hands-on activities, and paper-saving when you need multiple copies
Who These Are For
- Kindergarteners extending from 0–10 into the teen number range, and first graders solidifying 0–20 number sense before moving to larger numbers
- Students who understand 0–10 well but lose confidence with teen numbers — pulling just the 10–20 cards for a targeted small group session is a fast and simple intervention
- In the classroom: The 0–20 range is the workhorse of kindergarten and 1st grade math. Use these cards in morning meeting, math warm-ups, and math centers all year. They’re especially useful for the “counting on” strategy — give a student a starting card and have them count forward aloud. Pair with a physical number line for students who need the visual support alongside the card.
- In homeschool: Set these out for a five-minute drill at the start of your math session. Focus on just the teen numbers until they’re solid, then mix in the full 0–20 range. The missing-number activity is especially easy — no prep, just leave a gap in the sequence and ask. Works great as a quick daily math warm-up.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s included in the number flashcards 0–20 set?
The set covers numbers 0 through 20 with multiple versions: labeled, with pictures/dots, with tracing, and plain numbers.
What grade level is this set for?
Best for kindergarten through 1st grade. Numbers to 20 are a key milestone in early math, and this set supports both number recognition and counting practice in that range.
What’s the difference between the 0–10 and 0–20 sets?
The 0–10 set covers the foundational number range for beginning learners. The 0–20 set extends to teen numbers, which present their own recognition challenges (students often reverse or confuse 13 vs. 30, 14 vs. 40, etc.).
Can I use just part of the set?
Yes. You don’t have to use all 21 cards at once. Start with 0–5, add cards as students master each group, and work up to the full 0–20 range.
Are these free?
Yes, all versions are free to download with no sign-up needed.
What sizes can I print these flashcards?
These print on standard 8.5″ x 11″ paper in three sizes. Full page (1 per page) is best for bulletin boards and classroom displays. Half page (2 per page) works well for homeschool binders, learning centers, and early learners who need larger cards. Quarter page (4 per page) is the most paper-efficient option, great for individual student sets, hands-on activities, and games where you need multiple copies.
