Easy Halloween Charades for Preschoolers
For the three-to-five crowd, pull the simplest cards and act them out with them, not at them. “Be a cat” โ everybody crawls and meows. “Be a ghost” โ arms up, wooo. “Be a pumpkin” โ sit in a round little ball.
At this age it isn’t really a guessing game, it’s a movement game with a Halloween coat of paint, and that’s the point. Nobody keeps score, everybody wiggles, and you’ve burned ten minutes of pre-party energy. For more quiet-time options, pair it with the Halloween I Spy game.
Halloween Charades for Adults
Save the tricky cards for the grown-ups after the kids are in bed. “Poltergeist,” “mad scientist,” and “broken mirror” are genuinely hard to act without words, which is where the laughs live. Play in teams with a one-minute timer and a hard no-talking rule โ the moment someone blurts a hint, the round is dead. It’s a better icebreaker than it has any right to be at an adult Halloween party.
How to Play Halloween Charades (Rules, Teams and Timing)
- Print the PDF pages and cut out each card
- Drop the cards in a bowl or a plastic cauldron and split into two teams
- A player draws a card and acts it out โ no talking, no pointing at objects, no mouthing the word
- One minute on the timer; guess it in time and your team scores
- Play to ten points or just until the pizza arrives
- For mixed ages, let a grown-up whisper the word to a young actor so they can still take a turn
Halloween Charades vs Halloween Pictionary
Same 108 spooky words, two ways to play. With charades you act the word out with your body; with Halloween Pictionary you draw it on paper. Charades is better for a loud, up-on-your-feet party; Pictionary is quieter and works for kids who’d rather draw than perform. Grab both if you want a full game night.
Ideal For
- Teachers planning classroom Halloween parties
- Parents hosting Halloween family nights
- Homeschool families needing themed activities
- After-school and youth-group leaders
- Adult Halloween parties (use the harder cards)
