Features & Benefits

The story paper pairs really well with letter practice. If your kids are still working on letter formation, our lowercase tracing and writing line flashcards and uppercase set are basically the flashcard version of this same paper.

✏️ Trace the letter, then hand them a blank sheet and let them try it solo.

Once a kid has printing down, this same setup works for the jump to cursive. Our cursive lowercase flashcards pair naturally with a plain lined page for that transition.

Teaching Tip: The red and blue lines aren’t decoration either. That dashed midline shows kids where lowercase letters like “a” and “s” stop, versus tall letters like “b” and “l” that reach the top. Small detail, big difference for early writers.

How to Use It

1. Pick plain lines for pure practice, story paper for anything with a drawing
2. Laminate a few and use dry erase markers before committing to a “real” copy
3. Set up a writing center with a mix of styles so kids can choose
4. For older kids doing longer writing, numbered lined paper keeps multi-page work in order
5. Pair with a weekly reading log for a full literacy folder

Teacher Tip: Laminate the story paper pages specifically. Kids practice the layout as many times as they need before the version that goes in their portfolio.

Mom Tip: I keep plain practice sheets in the car. Carpool line just became handwriting time. (He hates this. It works anyway.)

Portrait Handwriting Paper

This is the one I reach for most. It’s your classic three lined handwriting paper: a solid top and bottom line with a dashed line running through the middle.

The dashed line tells kids where letters “sit” — not that mine ever look at it. (Is it just me, or do they draw straight through it every single time? 😂).
